Twins acquire A.J. Minter from the New York Mets
The Twins officially acquired Minter from the Mets for infield prospects Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani on Friday morning. Minnesota moved right-hander Cole Sands, who will undergo season-ending elbow surgery, to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.
Minter made his Twins debut against the Mariners on Saturday. He faced just one batter and induced an infield pop-out.
Twins acquire right-hander Dean Kremer from Orioles
A day after trading for Minter, Minnesota acquired Kremer from Baltimore. He has spent most of the season on the IL with a quad injury. Since being reinstated on July 1, Kremer has recorded a rough 7.56 ERA in 25 innings across five starts.
Kremer will make his Twins debut against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday.
Astros owner vetoes Houston-Minnesota Trevor Larnach trade
According to MLB reporter Michael Marino, the Twins and Astros had agreed to a deal that would send Larnach to Houston for right-handed reliever Bryan Abreu. Astros owner Jim Crane nixed the trade.

Abreu has struggled this season, posting a 4.62 ERA over 39 innings, but has allowed just two runs in his last 14 2/3 innings. He has a whiff rate of 31.5% and a strikeout rate of 28.7% this year. He is also battle-tested, with a 2.49 ERA across 21 2/3 postseason innings, and recorded a strong 2.28 ERA over 71 innings last season.
While the trade didn't happen, it indicates that Minnesota is willing to move on from Larnach, who is having the best offensive season of his career, to improve the pitching staff for this season. Larnach is under team control through 2027, while Abreu will be a free agent at the end of this season.
Twins option right-handers Zebby Matthews, Jack Anderson
To clear room for Minter and Kremer, Minnesota demoted Matthews and Anderson to Triple-A. Kremer takes Matthews' spot in the starting rotation, and Minter takes Anderson's spot in the bullpen.
Matthews has recorded a rough 5.22 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP and 69 strikeouts in 81 innings across 14 starts at the big-league level this season. Anderson, whom the Twins claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox last month, has thrown 4 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts for the Twins this year.
Outfield prospect Emmanuel Rodríguez scratched from rehab game
Rodríguez, the Twins' No. 3 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, was scratched from his scheduled rehab start with High-A Cedar Rapids on Sunday. Trade speculation naturally followed after news broke that the outfielder would no longer play Sunday, but he was scratched due to thumb soreness.

Rodríguez is rehabbing because he underwent surgery in late May for a UCL tear in his left thumb. So, the fact that he is now dealing with thumb soreness is a bit concerning.
