Twins in interesting position as trade deadline nears
After losing 2-0 to the Athletics at Target Field on Friday night, the Twins' record dropped to 51-54. The Twins trail the Cleveland Guardians by three games for the third American League Wild Card spot and the Chicago White Sox by 4 1/2 games for first place in the American League Central.
The MLB trade deadline is on Monday, Aug. 3, at 5:00 p.m. CDT. It'll be interesting to see which direction Minnesota takes at the deadline. How the club performs from now until early Aug. will likely determine if the team sells or buys lightly/stand pat.
It's also possible the Twins could buy and sell at the same time. Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star Tribune wrote that there is a "growing sense" from other organizations that the Twins are open to moving Jeffers before the trade deadline. Jeffers, who is set to be a free agent at the end of the year, appears to be the top catcher on the trade market, per FanSided's Robert Murray. With the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays both interested in Jeffers, the Twins may receive an offer for the catcher that's too good to turn down.
The Twins could trade Jeffers and roll with Victor Caratini, who has been swinging the bat well lately, as the team's starting catcher for the rest of the year. Minnesota could also "buy" by acquiring a starting pitcher and a reliever or two.
If Minnesota completely collapses between now and the deadline, then the team will likely fully sell. Trade candidates besides Jeffers include Josh Bell, Taylor Rogers and Trevor Larnach. Joe Ryan may be moved, but the trade buzz surrounding the star right-hander has died down lately.
Twins' Field of Dreams Game uniforms revealed
The Twins are slated to take on the Phillies for the Field of Dreams Game in Dyersville, Iowa, on Thursday, Aug. 13.
Earlier this week, MLB revealed the uniforms for the game inspired by the legendary Field of Dreams movie.

The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CDT. Fans can watch the matchup on Netflix.
Twins release infielder Orlando Arcia
The Twins have released infielder Orlando Arcia from the organization, according to the former Atlanta Braves All-Star's MLB.com transactions log.
Arcia signed a minor-league deal with Minnesota in the offseason. The Twins selected his contract on May 19, then designated him for assignment on June 15. He cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A St. Paul before ultimately being released.
In 50 plate appearances for Minnesota this year, Arcia hit .271/.300/.354. He played all four infield positions during his short stint with the club.
