Former Minnesota Twins shortstop Ehire Adrianza called it a career recently but it didn’t take long for him to land a new job.
According to Daniel Álvarez-Montes of El Extrabase, Adrianza will join the Twins front office as the assistant of player development. The report states that Adrianza’s new role will be working with infielders throughout the organization, which makes sense considering that Adrianza wrapped up a 10-year career by announcing his retirement on Christmas Day.
Adrianza spent time with the San Francisco Giants, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels and even won the World Series with the Atlanta Braves in 2021. But the best stretch of Adrianza’s career came in Minnesota as he hit .253/.317/.377 with 13 homers and 88 RBI in 311 games from 2017-20.
Adrianza’s best season also came as part of the Bomba Squad team that won 101 games and an American League Central title in 2019, hitting .272/.349/.416 with five homers and 22 RBI.
Ehire Adrianza’s addition will help Minnesota Twins’ versatility
The Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman added that Adrianza was a strong clubhouse presence during his time with the Twins, which likely left a positive impact among the Twins’ decision-makers.
With time at shortstop and third base, Adrianza’s presence could make the Twins’ infielders more versatile moving forward. This is important to Rocco Baldelli's aggressive tendencies when it comes to pinch-hitting and making moves in the field and could be extremely effective in helping Royce Lewis transition to second base if the Twins decide to go forward with that plan next season.
With other young infielders such as Brooks Lee, Luke Keaschall and Kaelen Culpepper in the organization, adding Adrianza should be a benefit at all levels as the Twins look to cultivate their infielders entering the 2025 season and beyond.
