Miranda heads to Triple-A St. Paul

The Twins swapped Miranda’s spot on the major league roster for former top prospect Brooks Lee, according to The Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman.

The demotion for Miranda came after the Twins’ 4-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers Saturday afternoon.

Miranda has been one of the worst hitters on the Twins’ struggling offense this season, as he posts a .167/.167/.250 slash line with 13 strikeouts and zero walks.

The deciding factor in demoting Miranda could have been his base-running mistake in Saturday’s matchup with the Detroit Tigers. Miranda led off the eighth inning by reaching base via a single. Christian Vázquez hit a ground ball to first baseman Spencer Torkelson, setting up a potential force out of Miranda at second base. Torkelson threw the ball to second for the out, but second baseman Colt Keith failed to put his foot on the bag. Even though the umpire put up a clear ‘safe’ sign, Miranda started heading toward the dugout and was tagged out by Keith.

“We have to pay attention, to say the least,” manager Rocco Baldelli said to the media postgame. “We have to pay attention there and never allow something like that to happen.”

While Miranda has been struggling significantly, his demotion may have surprised those who assumed Mickey Gasper would be next in line to be off the roster. The Twins hope Miranda can get back to form in Triple-A and contribute to the big league squad in the future.

Twins activate Brooks Lee

While rehabbing, Lee went 3-for-10 with three singles and a walk in three games for the Saints spanning from April 8-11 after an 0-for-3 showing with two strikeouts for Single-A Fort Myers last Sunday.

Lee will probably split time between second and third base, with some time mixed in as a designated hitter.

Lee, a former top prospect, heads to the Twins at a time when they desperately need help. Although he put up a mere .221/.265/.320 slash line in 50 games last season as a rookie, Lee has the potential to become a superstar and could be the spark the Twins offense needs. If he can become a force at the plate and help get the Twins back on track by the time Royce Lewis returns, Twins Territory could have a completely different outlook on a team that is currently 4-11.
