The Twins have won five of their last seven games, which included series victories against the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays and a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates with Paul Skenes making the start on the mound. Because of their recent hot streak, the Twins are still alive in the Wild Card race, sitting 3 ½ games behind the Rays for the third American League Wild Card spot. Additionally, recent good news regarding the injury statuses of key players improves Minnesota’s postseason chances even more.
Carlos Correa fine after scary Tommy Pham collision
In the seventh inning of the Twins’ 2-1 victory against the Pirates on Friday, DaShawn Keirsey Jr. threw out Pham at second base, with Correa applying the tag for the second out of the inning. On the play, Pham, who was trying to stretch a single into a double, slid head first into the bag, and his helmet collided with Correa’s right shin, injuring the Twins shortstop’s ankle. Correa left the game, but luckily was just diagnosed with a mild right ankle sprain and hopes to play on Sunday.
Zebby Matthews beginning rehab assignment this weekend
Matthews, who has been on the injured list with a right shoulder strain since June 8, will make his first start of a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul this Sunday, according to the Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman. Matthews recently faced live batters for the first time since suffering his injury, and he clearly felt good enough to start pitching in games again.

Luke Keaschall continues making progress toward a return
Keaschall, who has been sidelined since suffering a fractured right forearm on April 25, went to Minnesota’s complex in Florida to face live pitching for a bit until starting a rehab assignment, according to the Twins’ injury report.
Bailey Ober making progress
Ober threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and has thrown several times since being placed on the injured list with left hip impingement on July 2, according to the Twins’ injury report. Additionally, he received anti-inflammatory medicine that has already helped his hip feel better.
