Minnesota Twins to finish season with series against Texas Rangers
The Minnesota Twins' season is nearing its end. After an off-day on Thursday, the Twins will begin their final series of 2026 against the Texas Rangers at Target Field on Friday night. Here is the schedule for the Twins-Rangers series:
- Friday: 7:10 p.m. CDT
- Saturday: 3:10 p.m. CDT
- Sunday: 2:10 p.m. CDT
Joe Ryan (6-10, 3.83 ERA, 151 SO) will pitch on Friday. Bailey Ober (7-6, 4.21 ERA, 91 SO) is scheduled to pitch on Saturday. Dean Kremer (4-5, 4.97 ERA, 82 SO) will start the finale on Sunday. The Rangers haven't announced their starting pitchers for the series yet.
While the Twins are eliminated from postseason contention, their final series of the season will have major playoff implications. The Rangers and Houston Astros entered Thursday tied for first place in the American League West with a 78-80 record. The Astros hold the tiebreaker over the Rangers due to their head-to-head record.
Fomer Twins president Derek Falvey officially hired by New York Mets
The New York Mets officially announced they added former Twins president Derek Falvey to their front office. Falvey's title is "Senior Advisor, Baseball Operations." Falvey will work under Mets president David Stearns. Falvey and Stearns worked together during their time with the Cleveland Indians (now the Guardians).

The Athletic's Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal were the first to report that the Mets were expected to hire Falvey, who led the Twins' baseball operations department from 2016-25.
Twins outright catcher Alex Jackson
The Twins outrighted catcher Alex Jackson to Triple-A St. Paul, according to Jackson's transactions tracker on MLB.com. The Twins designated Jackson for assignment on Monday to make room for first baseman Aaron Sabato on the 40-man roster. Jackson will be eligible to elect free agency once the season ends.
Minnesota acquired Jackson from the Baltimore Orioles for infield prospect Payton Eeles over the offseason. At the time, it looked like Jackson would be the backup catcher for the season. However, the Twins then signed catcher Victor Caratini to a two-year, $14 million contract.
The Twins designated Jackson for assignment before the season began. He cleared waivers and played for the Saints. Minnesota selected his contract when Ryan Jeffers landed on the IL in mid-May. Minnesota designated him for assignment again in August. He cleared waivers, and the Twins selected his contract shortly after.
Jackson slashed .304/.342/.406 with one home run and five RBI in 73 plate appearances across 33 games with Minnesota this season.
