The Minnesota Twins may feel pressure to promote right-handed relievers Matt Bowman and John Brebbia, as both can opt out of their contracts on Sunday if they aren't on the 26-man roster. Given Minnesota's immense bullpen struggles this year, general manager Jeremy Zoll will likely strongly consider promoting Brebbia or Bowman, if not both.
Worth monitoring as Sunday approaches: 5/17 opt-out decisions for Saints relievers John Brebbia and Matt Bowman. Both have plenty of MLB experience and have the option on Sunday to be set free. Will the #MNTwins add either to their 26-man?

Bowman likely has a better shot of being promoted to the majors this week than Brebbia. In 13 games with Triple-A St. Paul this season, Bowman, 34, has posted a 1.77 ERA with 22 strikeouts and six walks while holding opponents to a .234 batting average over 20 1/3 innings.
Meanwhile, Brebbia, 35, has posted a poor 5.40 ERA in 18 1/3 innings across 13 games with the Saints in 2026. However, Brebbia has struck out 24 batters and allowed one or fewer runs in 10 of his 13 appearances. If it weren't for one extremely rough outing where he surrendered four earned runs in one inning, Brebbia would have a 3.63 ERA this season. While Bowman has a better chance of being promoted, Brebbia has a solid chance as well. The Twins may consider selecting both players' contracts.
Twins may as well promote Bowman and/or Brebbia due to bullpen struggles
Besides the Houston Astros, the Twins have the worst bullpen ERA (5.54) in MLB. Minnesota's relievers also rank 29th in strikeout rate (17.9%), 23rd in walk rate (11.8%) and last in batting average against (.273). Since the Twins have such poor bullpen stats, Minnesota may as well see if Bowman and/or Brebbia can help improve the team.
Bowman first reached the majors in 2016 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He has logged innings for the Cincinnati Reds, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Twins and Baltimore Orioles. The righty has a career 4.38 ERA with 194 strikeouts and 83 walks in 240 2/3 MLB innings over seven seasons.
Brebbia made his MLB debut with the St. Louis Cardinals two days shy of his 27th birthday in 2017, arguably the best season of his career. He posted a 2.44 ERA with 51 strikeouts and 11 walks over 51 2/3 innings during his rookie campaign. In addition to the Cardinals, Brebbia has pitched for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers. He has a career 4.04 MLB ERA with 414 strikeouts and 121 walks in 378 1/3 innings across eight seasons.
