The Minnesota Twins' season is over, but that doesn't mean the news involving the team stops. Declan Goff of SKOR North recently revealed injury updates on several key Twins players.
Twins outfielder Walker Jenkins to undergo surgery
Twins outfielder Walker Jenkins will undergo surgery to remove bone spurs/chips from his elbow.
The Twins called up Jenkins, the organization's No. 1 overall prospect, in late May. He initially struggled for a few weeks, but turned things around later in the year. Overall, Jenkins slashed .226/.293/.393 with four home runs and 10 RBI over 26 games with Minnesota this year.
Jenkins has dealt with various injuries throughout his young career. He missed a large chunk of the 2026 season due to a joint sprain in his left shoulder.
Twins outfielder Byron Buxton has stitches removed after surgery
Twins center fielder Byron Buxton underwent hip surgery earlier this month. According to Goff, Buxton had his stitches removed and will start strength training through Christmas.
Buxton had a strong start to the year, but once his hip began giving him major issues in July, he landed on the IL three times and struggled between the IL stints.
Buxton, 32, posted 2.6 fWAR and a .254/.319/.511 slash line with 25 home runs and 46 RBI over 93 games in 2026. Injuries continue to be an issue for the star center fielder.
Twins right-handers Zebby Matthews, Jeff Hoffman have flexor strains
Twins right-handed starting pitcher Zebby Matthews and right-handed reliever Jeff Hoffman have flexor strains, per Goff. Both pitchers are expected to be ready for 2027.
The Twins placed Hoffman on the IL during the final series of the season. Minnesota activated shortstop Kaelen Culpepper as a corresponding move.
The Twins acquired Hoffman and cash from the Toronto Blue Jays for left-hander Dasan Hill, right-hander John Klein, infielder Dameury Pena and international bonus pool space on Aug. 3.
Hoffman posted a 2.50 ERA with 27 strikeouts over 18 innings after joining Minnesota. He is under team control through next season.
Matthews, who began the season with Triple-A St. Paul, had an inconsistent year. He posted a 4.90 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 116 strikeouts over 130 1/3 innings.
He ended the season on a rough note, allowing five earned runs to the San Francisco Giants. In his previous start, Matthews threw six scoreless innings against the New York Yankees. The Twins might consider moving Matthews to a bullpen role next year.
