Minnesota Twins third baseman Brooks Lee continues to prove he has star potential after many doubted whether he could stick in the majors long-term. On Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field, Lee hit a single in the ninth inning before delivering a clutch, bases-clearing double in the 11th as Minnesota won 5-3 to even the four-game series at one game apiece.

With the victory, the Twins improved to 27-28 while the White Sox dropped to 27-27. The Twins hold the third AL Wild Card spot while the White Sox hold the second. Minnesota trails AL Central-leading Cleveland by four games. Lee's breakout is a huge reason the Twins are in a playoff spot.
Lee's hot streak comes after slow start to career, season
Lee started the year on the wrong foot, hitting .167/.219/.167 through April 8. At the time, many thought he needed a reset in Triple-A, especially since he slashed just .232/.279/.357 over 712 plate appearances in his first two big league seasons (2024-25). He's proved his doubters wrong, slashing .273/.331/.460 since April 9. Overall, Lee, 25, is slashing .259/.315/.416 with six home runs, nine doubles and 30 RBI over 201 plate appearances this season.
Lee began the year as Minnesota's primary shortstop before being moved to third base after the Twins optioned Royce Lewis to Triple-A St. Paul last week. Lee's shortstop defense was well below average this year, prompting Minnesota's decision to move him to third base, a position he has performed at a higher level than shortstop throughout his short big-league career.
It appears that Minnesota plans for Lee to be the team's starting third baseman for a while unless his numbers suddenly drop. His old position, shortstop, is currently being held down by Ryan Kreidler, Orlando Arcia and Tristan Gray. Top infield prospect Kaelen Culpepper will likely take over the position soon. Meanwhile, Minnesota may convert Lewis, who has hit four homers since being demoted to Triple-A, to a first baseman.
