Walker Jenkins' MLB debut is finally arriving. The Twins have officially called up Jenkins, their No. 1 overall prospect, to the majors from Triple-A St. Paul before Friday night's game against the Chicago White Sox.

Many speculated that Byron Buxton would be headed to the IL as a corresponding move to Jenkins' promotion. Buxton, who has been on the IL twice already this season with a hip issue, exited Tuesday's loss to the Athletics early due to hip discomfort. For now, it appears Buxton will avoid the IL.
Buxton may still miss some games, but here's the ideal lineup for Jenkins' debut if Buxton can play tonight.

Even though Jenkins hasn't appeared in a big-league game, there's a strong chance he could immediately become the Twins' best hitter, so having him hit in the top part of the lineup would be a wise move for the Twins. Placing him third in the lineup right off the bat would also be a good way to instill confidence in the young outfielder for his first big-league game.
Jenkins, 21, has slashed an outstanding .411/.488/.795 with eight home runs at Triple-A St. Paul this month. Overall, Jenkins has hit .308/.407/.532 with 12 home runs and 17 stolen bases over 69 games with the Saints this year.
Twins' Walker Jenkins promotion could help team get back in playoff position
Even though there are 28 games left on the regular-season schedule for Minnesota, tonight's matchup with the Chicago White Sox certainly feels like a must-win game. The Twins entered last weekend's San Diego Padres series in possession of the third American League Wild Card spot. After being swept by the Padres and losing two of three games to the Athletics, Minnesota fell to four games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final Wild Card spot.
Jenkins' promotion could be exactly what the Twins need to get back on track. The young star won't be able to carry the team by himself, but if he continues where he left off with the Saints, Minnesota will have a much better chance of getting back into playoff contention.
Tonight's game between the Twins and White Sox at Target Field is scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m. CDT. Right-hander Dean Kremer will make the start on the mound for Minnesota. Right-hander Luis Castillo is slated to start for Chicago. Fans can watch the game on Twins.TV.
