The Minnesota Twins shockingly tagged Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet for 11 runs (10 earned) in 1 2/3 innings last night en route to a 13-6 victory at Target Field. The Boston southpaw noticeably had much lower velocity than usual, creating injury concerns among Red Sox fans.

However, MassLive's Christopher Smith reported that Crochet, 26, said he isn't injured, which Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed.
Red Sox's Garrett Crochet surprisingly not injured after horrific start vs Twins
Obviously, Red Sox fans are happy their favorite team's ace isn't injured. However, the fanbase is left wondering why last season's AL Cy Young runner-up had by far the worst start of his career last night.
There are reasons to believe Crochet will get back on track after last night's horrific outing. Before yesterday's loss, Crochet had a solid 3.12 ERA through three starts this season. And, if his lowered velocity led to his immense struggles last night, it shouldn't be a concern later in the season.
Garrett Crochet's fastball velocity in March/April:
— nugget chef (@jayhaykid) April 14, 2026
Cutter: 90.4 mph (2025) vs 90.8 mph (2026)
4-seam: 95.9 mph (2025) vs 95.9 mph (2026)
Sinker: 95.5 mph (2025) vs 95.2 mph (2026)
Still hope!https://t.co/V9FaqQIsHk
Regardless of why Crochet struggled last night, the Twins' offense deserves credit for its offensive onslaught.
Minnesota scored four runs in the first inning. Second baseman Luke Keaschall drove in the first run on an RBI double, and catcher Ryan Jeffers followed with an RBI single. Shortstop Brooks Lee hit an RBI single on a ground ball to shortstop Trevor Story, who made an errant throw to second base, allowing the fourth run of the inning to score.
Jeffers hit another RBI single in the second inning, and designated hitter Josh Bell followed with a two-RBI double off the right-center field wall. First baseman Victor Caratini then hit a three-run home run, and third baseman Ryan Kreidler capped off the scoring against Crochet with his first home run as a Twin, increasing Minnesota's lead to 11-0.

Twins' Byron Buxton makes Target Field history vs Red Sox
The Twins tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on solo shots from center fielder Byron Buxton and Jeffers. Notably, Buxton's big fly gave the star the most homers in Target Field history.

Righty Bailey Ober started the game on the mound for Minnesota. He didn't have an amazing outing, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and one walk. However, he struck out seven batters and lasted six innings, promising signs for the righty who has had a major dip in velocity this year.
After righty Eric Orze surrendered a run in an inning of work, righty Garrett Acton finished the game by throwing two no-hit innings with three strikeouts.
With the win, the Twins held on to their first-place title in the American League with a 10-7 record, tied with the Cleveland Guardians. Minnesota has won seven of its last eight games.
The Twins aim to continue their hot streak when they take on the Red Sox in Game 2 of the series, scheduled for 6:40 tonight. Righties Mick Abel and Sonny Gray are the scheduled starting pitchers. The game will be available to stream on Twins.TV.
