The Minnesota Twins’ front office has undergone a shake-up after the team missed the postseason for the third time in the past four seasons and that restructure continued when Alex Hassan, Sean Johnson and Josh Kalk were promoted to assistant general manager on Tuesday.

All three promotions involve executives who have been with the organization since current President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey was hired in 2017 and will join current assistant general manager Daniel Alder in the front office.

“Alex, Sean and Josh have played an integral role in shaping the success of our organization, and we are eager to see their continued growth in these expanded capacities,” Falvey said in a press release. “Their work has been pivotal in building a strong major league roster and one of the top farm systems in the game. Their individual expertise and dedication are essential to achieving our goals as a team.”

The promotions are the latest move in a front office that looks different than it did at the end of last season. But while the titles have changed, the names have remained the same.

Falvey, who was already the President of Baseball Operations, will assume Dave St. Peter’s role of President of Business Operations when he retires during the first quarter of 2025.

Longtime general manager Thad Levine left the team when his contract expired last fall and Jeremy Zoll, who served as the assistant general manager was promoted to replace Levine in November.

Hassan and Kalk are both entering their eighth season with the Twins and Johnson is entering his 24th season with Minnesota. All three have played significant roles and will assume new duties with the new promotion.

Hassan has been the Vice President of Hitting Development & Acquisitions since Nov. 2022 and will work more closely with the major league team and hitting group while continuing to collaborate with player development leaders, coordinators and coaches on on-field strategy and skill development plans. He’ll also remain actively involved in all facets of offensive player acquisition.

Kalk has spent the past three seasons as Vice President of Baseball Operations Strategy & Innovation and will contribute to all facets of the team’s baseball strategy with a particular focus on integrating insights from the Baseball Research and Development staff. He’ll also assist the major league staff and player development personnel with specialized information while leading the advance scouting team.

Johnson was also promoted to the Twins Vice President of Amateur Scouting in Jan. 2022. While he will continue to lead the amateur scouting group and oversee preparation for the First-Year Player Draft, his new role will be guiding the development of the club’s amateur scouting philosophies and staff.

The Twins hope the new moves will lead to more success on the field as Minnesota build a double-digit lead in the Wild Card standings before missing the playoffs in 2024. With a talented core and prospects on the way, the promotions should play a key role in helping the Twins as they look to compete in 2025.
