The Minnesota Twins are one of the many teams in Major League Baseball this season who aren't bad enough that they are definitive sellers ahead of the trade deadline at the end of the month, but aren't good enough to be a definitive buyer either. Derek Falvey hasn't been ready to outline the Twins' plan for the deadline, but it seems that the fanbase has made the decision abundantly clear.

MLB Trade Rumors recently ran a poll of fans regarding the direction the Twins should take at the deadline. The poll offered three options: They should sell off short-term assets while making controllable additions to try and balance the two approaches, they should sell to set themselves up for the future, or they should buy to maximize their 2025 season.

The one option that can instantly be discarded is the idea of the Twins buying to contend in 2025. Less than 10 percent of the voters selected that option. The fact of the matter is that the Twins are barely a postseason contender, and for that reason, it would take emptying their farm system at the deadline to become a true contender during the final months of the season. That isn't a realistic approach.

Twins fans just revealed a truth the front office wasn’t ready for

Even the idea of the Twins selling to set themselves up for the future doesn't make complete sense. This is a Twins team that will very likely enter the 2026 season with Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, Pablo Lopez and Jhoan Duran. If you squint, you can find a contending core on the Twins' roster. Just under 42.5 percent of the voters selected this option.

The leading option, with over 47 percent of the vote, was that the Twins should thread the needle between selling and adding cost-controlled talent at the deadline. That likely is the approach the front office will take.

Moving players like Harrison Bader, Danny Coulombe, and Chris Paddack should be deals that are on the table for the Twins at the deadline. All free agents at the end of the season, the Twins should shop their rentals with the hope of adding talent that could help the Major League team for not only this season, but multiple seasons moving forward.
