The eve of the MLB trade deadline got off to a shocking start with an explosive rumor that suggested the Minnesota Twins may trade Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros. Nearly every baseball insider confirmed that there was interest from the Astros and that there were some degree of talks between the two teams. However, as more details emerge, it doesn't appear that a deal is at the forefront for either team.

The latest from Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome of The Athletic confirms that the initial talks between the Astros and Twins didn't go very far.

"Even so, the Twins believe the Astros are the one team Correa might approve for a trade because he maintains an offseason home in the Houston area. The two sides have discussed parameters, but people with knowledge of the situation indicated the teams initially were far apart."

Correa's contract is likely at the center of the gap between the Twins and Astros. The primary purpose the Twins would have for moving Correa is to get out from under the $33MM that is owed to the veteran in each of the next three seasons. Meanwhile, the Astros have avoided going over the luxury tax, so it stands to reason they would want the Twins to help with the remaining money on the deal. That likely is a non-starter for the Twins' front office.

It should also be stressed that the Twins aren't actively shopping Correa. The Astros approached the Twins about a potential deal for Correa, and Houston would likely be the only team that the veteran shortstop would waive his no-trade clause for.

While talks aren't completely dead, and Jim Crane getting involved could push the Astros toward a reunion with Correa, it feels like this is one of those rumors to have fun with as we wait for actual moves to be completed.
