Twins recall outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr., right-handed pitchers Travis Adams, Noah Davis

The Twins have recalled outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and right-handed pitchers Travis Adams and Noah Davis, the team announced, as rosters expanded from 26 to 28 players on Monday. Right-handed pitcher Mick Abel, who allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk in one inning against the Padres on Saturday, was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul as a corresponding move.

Keirsey's promotion marks the third time this season the outfielder has been recalled to the big leagues from Triple-A St. Paul. Keirsey, 28, has been abysmal offensively in his time with the Twins, slashing .110/.141/.183 for a -16 wRC+ with two homers in 85 plate appearances. As a major-leaguer, Keirsey hasn't made many starts on the field, mainly serving as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement. He has eight stolen bases in 11 attempts, and his sprint speed ranks in the 80th percentile among the league. Defensively, Keirsey has two outs above average in his limited time with the Twins this season, but his poor hitting has outweighed that as he has posted -0.8 fWAR this year.

Adams and Davis have seen time in the major leagues with Minnesota this season as well. Adams has now been recalled by the Twins five times this season, while Davis had a cup of coffee with the Twins in late-July/early-August after being traded to Minnesota from the Los Angeles Dodgers mid-July.

Adams, 25, has struggled in his time with the Twins, posting a 7.71 ERA with 21 strikeouts while allowing 30 hits and 12 walks in 23 1/3 innings. Adams relies on six pitches: a mid-90s four-seamer (29.4%), mid-80s slider (22%), mid-high-80s changeup (15.3%), low-90s cutter (14.8%), mid-90s sinker (12.4%) and high-70s curveball (6.1%).

As for Davis, the former Dodger has made just two appearances as a Twin, and both went poorly. In his first outing, he surrendered two earned runs on one home run with three strikeouts in two innings. In his second outing, Davis, 28, allowed three earned runs on five hits (one home run) and one walk with one strikeout in one inning. Davis has five pitches in his arsenal: a high-70s sweeper (37.3%), mid-90s sinker (36.8%), high-80s cutter (17.6%), mid-90s four-seamer (6.2%) and mid-80s screwball (2.1%).

Davis and Adams likely will have to pitch well if they want to maintain their spots on the 28-man roster for the remainder of the season, as Pablo López and David Festa will likely return sometime this month.
