Third baseman Royce Lewis has had an interesting season to say the least. He began the 2025 campaign on the injured list with a right hamstring strain and returned in early May. Lewis' May was, to be blunt, awful, as the Twins third baseman slashed .130/.200/.203 for a 12 wRC+ in 79 plate appearances. This was especially worrisome since Lewis struggled at the end of last season after starting the year hot; Lewis posted a .292/.354/.685 (185 wRC+) slash line with 10 home runs and five doubles in 99 plate appearances (he dealt with a couple of injuries) through July 2 last season, then hit .207/.270/.350 for a 73 wRC+ with six homers and 11 doubles in 226 plate appearances to finish the season.
Lewis showed why he was a first-overall pick with his performance in June and July this season, slashing .313/.361/.491 for a 135 wRC+ with four home runs and 17 RBIs in 122 plate appearances. His overall numbers still weren't great at the time, as his poor May kept them down, but he was headed in the right direction.
However, Lewis dealt with regression (and controversy) once again in August, posting a 77 wRC+ in 108 plate appearances, but the third baseman has returned to looking like a star in September.
Twins' Royce Lewis on hot stretch in September
Lewis has started in seven of the Twins' eight games this month and has been one of the team's biggest contributors, hitting .310/.333/.655 for a 169 wRC+ with three home runs, six RBIs, four runs and four stolen bases across 30 plate appearances. Two of Lewis' home runs this month came against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday in Anaheim.

Lewis needs to improve his consistency, but there is no doubt that he has superstar potential, especially considering his spectacular rookie season, where he posted 2.3 fWAR and a 153 wRC+ in 58 games and became a vital reason for the Twins snapping their 21-season playoff-series-win drought.

Again, Lewis needs to improve his consistency at the plate if he wants to reach his full potential and help the Twins return to postseason contention. His recent hot stretch in September, as well as other hot stretches throughout the season, prove that it is possible.
