There is plenty that the Minnesota Twins need to do this offseason to spruce up the roster ahead of a hopeful 2026 campaign. The club is getting things in place with a new coaching staff, which means we are nearing the Twins making moves to acquire players.

Where do they start first? Well, Minnesota needs some help at first base following Ty France getting traded to the Toronto Blue Jays this past year. Kody Clemens, who played 58 games at first base in 2025, is sadly not the every day first baseman despite showing glimpses of consistency when given his chances.

One free agent first baseman who won't cost that much money is Rhys Hoskins, a 32-year-old right-hander with a resume highlighted by power. MLB.com thinks he is the best fit for the Minnesota Twins in 2026, but does the potential move make sense?

Hoskins' mutual option was declined by the Milwaukee Brewers this year, which placed him into free agency. Though the Brewers had a league-high 97 wins, Hoskins only played in 90 games thanks to a sprained left thumb.

He still found a way to be productive, however, and registered a 108 OPS+ and .332 OBP. He had a strong start to the 2025 season, batting .303 in April, then .271 in May. But he took a dip as his thumb became a problem, and he missed two months of action.

Hoskins, an average defensive first baseman, has generated two 30-plus home run seasons in his career, and five overall 25-plus home run campaigns. His resume is backed by a career of mashing, and that could fit in well with a solid offense starting to scratch its surface. Imagine a lineup with Byron Buxton, Luke Keaschall, Royce Lewis, and Rhys Hoskins? Now we're talking.

Hoskins, who will be 33 in March, probably won't be seeking a deal longer than three seasons. If the Twins can drum up a fair deal in the two-to-three year range, Rhys Hoskins could be a solid fit as Minnesota looks to turn their organization around.
