The Baltimore Orioles are open to trading nearly everyone on their roster, according to Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. Star first baseman Pete Alonso is the only untouchable player on Baltimore's roster. At the same time, the Orioles are looking to upgrade the rotation, the catcher position and the outfield.

Minnesota has plenty of promising catching and outfield prospects whom Baltimore could be interested in. Meanwhile, the Twins could use a player who can play first base and hit lefties well, making Coby Mayo a perfect target. Since the Twins have several outfield and catching prospects they can afford to lose, they seem like perfect trade partners for the Orioles.

Mayo, 24, can play first and third base. He is coming off a solid offensive season, slashing .228/.297/.461 with 24 home runs, 18 doubles, three triples and 63 RBI in 132 games. He dominated left-handed pitching, hitting .322/.393/.712 against southpaws last season. The Twins are set at third base with Brooks Lee, but Mayo could play first base and serve as an occasional DH. If Lee needs a day off or gets injured, Mayo could step in at third base.

Mayo is under team control through the 2031 season. He won't hit arbitration until 2028.

Orioles' Coby Mayo would be a perfect fit for the Twins

For now, Royce Lewis is the favorite to be Minnesota's primary first baseman in 2027. However, the Twins might trade or non-tender Lewis after he posted a below-average 85 wRC+ over the past two seasons. Even if the Twins keep Lewis, acquiring a lefty masher like Mayo would make Minnesota a better team.

With Vahn Lackey likely the Twins' catcher of the future and top outfield prospects Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez making their MLB debuts this past season, Minnesota can afford to trade outfield and catching prospects. According to MLB Pipeline, the Twins have six catchers in the top-30 prospects list: Lackey, Eduardo Tait, Khadim Diaw, Carson Tinney, Enrique Jimenez and Ricardo Olivar. Top outfield prospects the Twins could consider trading include Hendry Mendez, Gabriel Gonzalez and Yasser Mercedes.

The Twins don't have many highly regarded pitching prospects besides Riley Quick. But if they want to trade Joe Ryan, who is set to be a free agent after the 2027 season, Minnesota could ask Baltimore for Mayo and a prospect in return for the two-time All-Star. However, since the Orioles are open to trading nearly their entire roster, they might want a player with more team control. Zebby Matthews is a Twins starter whom Baltimore could be interested in.

Long story short, the Twins have the capital to make a Mayo trade happen.
