The Minnesota Twins lost to the Baltimore Orioles, 2-1 on Thursday, marking the club's fourth Opening Day loss over the last six seasons. It was a pretty lifeless game, meaning there were very few bright spots to get Twins fans excited.
However, the one positive moment that happened on the offensive side was exactly what fans wanted to see happen. The Byron Buxton-Luke Keaschall connection will be critical in 2026, regardless of who bats in front of the other. On Thursday, following seven scoreless frames, the powerful duo drummed up the team's only run of the day. Let's not get used to scoring only one run a game, but we can get comfortable with Buxton and Keaschall combining for production.
Byron Buxton and Luke Keaschall produce Twins' only run on Opening Day
Buxton got things going in the eighth inning with a triple down left-field line off Tyler Wells, which provided a spark that Minnesota lacked all game. It's nice to see our Silver Slugger kick off his season with a three-bagger. He had seven of those in 2025, which marked a career-high.

Then, Keaschall, who went 1-for-3 while batting third in the lineup, brought Buxton in to score on a deep sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1.
This was Keaschall's 50th career MLB game, but the pressure is sadly already on for him to produce. It was a solid first effort of the season for the 23-year-old. Fans want to see him rise to the status of a star, so it was a breath of fresh air to see him come through in the opener.
As for the rest of the lineup, they'll look to pick it up on Saturday against Kyle Bradish after getting blanked by Trevor Rogers. Austin Martin, Ryan Jeffers, and Victor Caratini were the only other Twins to record a hit on Opening Day, each going for a single. Keep an eye on Buxton and Keaschall to continue their connection, but don't let that mask the rest of the lineup's performance.
