Cincinnati Reds, former Minnesota Twins lefty reliever Anthony Misiewicz agree to minor league deal
The Reds have signed former Twins lefty reliever Anthony Misiewicz to a minor league deal, according to Cincinnati's transaction log.
The Twins signed Misiewicz, 31, to a minor league deal last offseason. The lefty began the season with Triple-A St Paul before Minnesota selected his contract on July 9. He surrendered five earned runs on five hits (two homers) and three walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings for the Twins before leaving Minnesota's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on July 22 due to a left shoulder impingement, which kept the lefty sidelined until he was activated on September 28. He had one more outing for the Twins on September 28 against the Philadelphia Phillies, allowing one hit and one walk in 1/3 of an inning.
With Triple-A St. Paul last season, Misiewicz had a 3.83 ERA with 30 strikeouts and 11 walks in 33 innings.
New Reds lefty reliever Anthony Misiewicz has bounced around the league since making his MLB debut in 2020
The Seattle Mariners selected Misiewicz from Michigan State University in the 18th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Mariners in 2020 and stayed with the organization until Seattle traded him to the Kansas City Royals for cash on August 1, 2022. In 88 1/3 innings across 104 games with the Mariners, the lefty posted a 4.48 ERA with 86 strikeouts and 27 walks.
Misiewicz made 15 appearances for the Royals in 2022 before being designated for assignment and signing with the St. Louis Cardinals during the following offseason. The Cardinals didn't hold onto Misiewicz for long, dealing the lefty to the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash on March 31, 2023.
Misiewicz played for three MLB teams in 2023. He had a 5.63 ERA in eight innings with the Diamondbacks, allowed three runs in 1/3 of an inning for the Detroit Tigers, and allowed one earned run in 2 2/3 innings for the New York Yankees. He made just one MLB appearance in 2024, allowing no earned runs in one inning with the Yankees.
Misiewicz, who throws a cutter (55.7%), changeup (20%), curveball (17.4%) and four-seamer (7%), will likely be in the majors with the Reds at some point in 2026. But given his history, it's difficult to imagine he'll stick around in the big leagues for too long.
