We've waited 176 days but baseball is finally going to be played again at Target Field this afternoon.

After a five game road trip to start the season, the Minnesota Twins are back in Minneapolis for the home opener on Thursday, and it's truly a homecoming we've all been waiting for.

The last time we saw the Twins at Target Field they came up short in Game 4 of the ALDS. That was the end of the most exciting postseason run we've seen the team go on since 2002 and it has set the stage for an even deeper run this year.

Of course, there are some kinks that need to be worked out between now and then. The offense came alive on Wedensday against the Brewers but it came after bats went quiet for the previous three games.

After scoring nine runs in the first two games, Minnesota mustered up just two runs over the next 19 innings and it wasn't until the seventh inning on Wednesday that the offense started to wake up.

Injuries have played a factor in the sluggish start, but we all saw how brutal things got when the offense slumped last year. To see something simliar happen out of the gate was less than ideal. Then again, what better way to turn things around than against the Cleveland Guardians?

That's what's on the table for the Twins on Thursday as the team prepares to cut the ribbon on another season of baseball at Target Field.

What time is the Twins game today? (April 4th)

The Twins have yet another day game scheduled, although this one feels a little bit closer to being in their wheelhouse. First pitch at Target Field is scheduled for 3:10 pm CT, which is how Opening Day started for Minnesota and seems to be the sort of vibe the team will want to follow.

Playing in the ealier window, as we saw the Twins do in Kansas City and Milwaukee, often leads to struggles. There's just something about day games that the team can't figure out, but this feels late-afternoon enough to deal with.

There's only one way to find out.

Hopefully the energy of the home opener is enough to carry the team back to where it was on Opening Day. The offense was clicking, Pablo Lopez was on the mound absolutely dealing, and the Twins walked away with a victory over an AL Central foe. Seems like a good thing to rinse and repeat with.

If you're not going to the game today, here's how to catch it at home:

  • Date: Thursday, March 28, 2024
  • Game Time: 3:10 pm CT | 4:10 pm ET
  • Location: Kansas City, MO
  • Stadium: Target Field
  • Local TV Channel: Bally Sports North
  • Live Stream: Fubo | More Options

We can only hope that things go as well as they did last year for the home opener. The Houston Astros were in town and Kyle Farmer ended things with a walk-off to secure the first win of the year at Target Field.

Beating the Astros was cathartic in its own right, but the 3-2 Twins could really use a win over Cleveland to kick off the home schedule. The Guardians have looked pretty stellar so far this year and sit above Minnesota in the AL Central standings.

It's a four game series at Target Field, and things could look very different by the time the next series against the Dodgers rolls around.
