Given how things were going when a rain delay halted action, it was the exact opposite of what the Twins wanted.

Minnesota has been having a very bad time against the Yankees this season, which is in stark contrast to how well things went last year. For the first time in over two decades the Twins won a season series against the Yankees, something it seems they’re paying a major tax for now.

In seven games against New York, Minnesota has allowed over 30 runs while getting completely shut down by the Yankees pitching staff. Lucas Gil and Carlos Rodon when back-to-back nights where they carried perfect games deep into their starts and even a rocky beginning to Marcus Stroman’s night wasn’t enough for the Twins to retain an upper hand.

Carlos Correa hit a first inning home run to give Minnesota it’s first lead over the Yankees since their first game against one another back in May. That Ryan Jeffers home run was the last run Minnesota scored against the Yankees until Royce Lewis hit a home run in the seventh inning on Tuesday night.

That’s the kind of season it’s been against the Yankees and the baseball gods refuse it let it end.

Latest Twins vs. Yankees rain delay updates (June 6, 2024)

It had already been an unusually long game, with both teams deciding to empty the offensive tanks and score a combined 13 runs. A storm cell that appeared seemingly out of nowhere has added even more time onto the night.

As the skies opened up in the top of the sixth inning, the tarps came out at Yankee Stadium.

The good news is that it doesn’t seem like the rain will last long into the night. While it was down pouring in the Bronx when the tarps came out, there’s hope that the game will restart within the next hour after things clear up.

For what it’s worth, the game is official so if the rain doesn’t let up then the decision might be made to simply call it and move on.

UPDATE (8:46pm CT)

The rain has stopped and the tarp is finally coming off the field.
