Twins gloriously Sparta kicked the White Sox deeper down a historic losing streak

Chicago's last win came against the Twins on July 10th, and Minnesota wasn't going to let the losing streak end on its watch.

Perhaps nothing was more indicative of two franchises headed in totally different directions than what happened between the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota kicked the White Sox further down a historic losing streak, beating Chicago 13-7 to sweep the final series of the season against their AL Central rivals. It also closes out a weekend where the Twins scored 29 runs against the White Sox, which serves as a nice little exclamation point on how things went between the two teams this year.

It was utter domination not just over the course of this series for the Twins, but over the entire season series against the White Sox. Minnesota finishes up its slate of games against Chicago this year with a 12-1 record, having lost part of a doubleheader back in July.

Other than the one hiccup, the Twins absolutely cooked the White Sox and have done their part in Chicago having one of the worst season in baseball history. The modern era record is held by the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics who went 36-117 but that was before the league expanded to 162-games.

The record everyone has circled is owned by the 1962 New York Mets, a team that finished the year 40-120 with a modern schedule length. That's the mark the White Sox are chasing, as after losing yet again to the Twins, Chicago has fewer than 30 wins with just 48 games left in the season.

Another horrible lowpoint is in reach for the White Sox after this most recent series with the Twins.

Twins kicked the White Sox further down a historic pit of losing

Back in 1961 the Philadelphia Phillies lost 23 games in a row, which is the modern era record for the longest losing streak in baseball history (the Louisville Colonels and Cleveland Spiders both lost more games, but that was before the turn of the 20th century).

Chicago's last win was that half doubleheader victory over the Twins -- which was on July 10th. Since then the White Sox have lost 20 consecutive games and are barrelling toward being on the wrong side of history. A series against the Athletics is up next, followed by a pair of games against the Chicago Cubs which could push the White Sox past that historic low point.

For what it's worth, Chicago's series after that is against the Yankees so there's a very real chance we see them break the Louisville Colonels record of 26 straight losses.

Of the AL Central rivalries, the one Minnesota has with the White Sox has always felt more like a sibilings. Still, nobody is crying any tears over the losing streak that is happening, and the Twins are likely more than happy to be contributing after the juvenile stuff the Sox pulled at the trade deadline.

We'll see if the losing streak continues to set a record, but Minnesota can rest well knowing it did its part in helping history get made.
