Unreal photo of sky above Target Field makes it look like it's on another planet
A storm rolled through Minneapolis and gifted fans with one of the most metal baseball photos ever taken.
It was a strange night at Target Field on Monday, as two destructive forces combined to leave Minnesota Twins fans in complete awe.
The Atlanta Braves rolled into town for the opening game of a three-game series, and absolutely mashed the Twins into another dimension. Minnesota fell behind 4-0 before even recording a single out, and the route was on from there.
Bailey Ober was done after just two innings, giving up a whopping nine runs including a pair of home runs. His day would have been over regardless, but a massive severe thunderstorm delayed the game and made the decision to end his night even easier than it already was.
While the Twins were in a world of hurt, the storm that rolled in made it look like it was all happening in a different universe.
Sky above Target Field during Twins-Braves looked straight out of a Sci-Fi movie
In the bottom of the first inning, tornado sirens began blaring all throughout downtown Minneapolis. The game wasn't halted at that point, as home plate umpire Mark Wegner consulted the stadium's meteorologist and head groundskeeper who told him the teams could play on in safety.
That ended in the middle of the second inning when the skies opened up and drenched Target Field for the next half hour. The storm might have delayed the game, but it gave photographers a chance to snap an absolutely unreal photo of what the sky above the stadium looked like.
That's about as metal as it gets.
Too bad it happened during a game where the Twins were getting fired into the core of the sun by the Braves. Still, at least something cool happened on Monday night that fans could get some enjoyment out of.
While it takes the cake as the coolest photo of the night, it wasn't the only footage that was recorded. Fans and beat writers around the stadium -- and across the street in an apartment building -- took images that made Target Field look like it was on another planet.
It was a powerful storm that probably should have delayed the start of the game, but both teams were able to still fit a full nine innings in. Twins fans will want to remember only the photos from Monday night, what happened on the field was far less mesmerizing.
Despite the brutal loss, the Twins still managed to make up ground in the AL Central. Cleveland was swept by Kansas City in a doubleheader, which means Minnesota is just two games behing the Guardians for first place.
Unfortunately the Twins are also behind the Royals in the standings, but perhaps the storm that blew through Minneapolis isn't the only one brewing in Minnesota as we reach the home stretch of the season.
