Minnesota Twins fans went on a roller coaster ride on Friday, one that ended with the purest joy both on and off the field.

The day started with a barrage of horrible injury news; Joe Ryan could be lost for months, Brooks Lee is headed to the IL, and Brock Stewart's season is over. Even the farm system was bitten by the injury bug, as Top 100 prospect Luke Keaschall is set to undergo Tommy John surgery.

All of that lowered the bar of expectation for Twins fans who went from being excited about potentially catching the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central to bracing for a total disaster. Instead of carrying the bad vibes, Minnesota shook them off with a doubleheader sweep of Cleveland to move within 1.5 games of first place.

Not only was the sweep an unexpected plot twist given how the day began, but how the team got there might indicate that things are going to be alright.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt inexplicably left starter Alex Cobb in the game to face Matt Wallner for a third time. Wallner made him pay, tatooing a three-run homer that gave Minnesota a 5-2 lead and essentially served as a game-winner.

Waiting in the on-deck circle was Royce Lewis, who celebrated Wallner's homer by giving off exactly the vibes Minnesota needs right now.

Lewis has become the bright shining center of the Twins' universe in more than one way. His play on the field speaks for itself, as the team is infinitely better when he's in the lineup. Lewis never fails to add a jolt of some sort, and that now extends to even when he's not at the plate.

Given how the day started, the Twins could have stumbled into this series against Cleveland. Instead, they've landed a massive hook straight to the Guardians jaw and have seemingly knocked them onto the mat.

Lewis celebrating Wallner's home run is more than the sum of its parts; it's proof of life for a team that has a tendancy to fold when the going gets tough in the past.

There's still work to be done, but the Twins have shown a fire we haven't seen from them in the past. Rather than roll over when down late in games, Minnesota has found a way to storm back and claw its way to victory. That was on full display Friday night, and Lewis being right there to add some more flare to the fireworks was absolutely perfect.
