Tonight is the night baseball players dream about, as a lifetime of hard work is about to pay off for a handful of young prospects.

The MLB Draft will take place in Seattle, and with it will come the inauguration of the next generation of potential stars. Saturday night’s Futures Game gave us a glimpse into how bright the future of the game is, and the MLB Draft will cap that off with the annoucement of this year’s class.

College and high school players around the country will hear their names called, with players like Drew Crews, Wyatt Langford, and Paul Skenes expected to be among the top collegiate players drafted at the top of the order.

High schoolers like Max Clark and Walker Jenkins are also expected to be high draft choices.

The Minnesota Twins have the No. 5 pick in the draft and a handful of potential options to go with. Any of those aforementioned players could fall to Minnesota or they could take any of the next crop of prospects like Kyle Teel, Chase Dollander, or Jacob Gonzalez.

It will be the highest the Twins have selected in the MLB Draft since taking Royce Lewis No. 1 overall back in 2017, so expections are high that the team will land another prospect who could mature into an important piece of the future core.

What time does the MLB Draft start today?

This year the MLB Draft will start at 6pm CT on Sunday July 9th. The event will be held in Seattle as part of the All-Star Weekend festivities to commeroate the game being held there.

Only the first two rounds will be held on Sunday, with the rest of the draft being spread across the following two days. Rounds 3-10 will be held on Monday starting at 1pm CT with rounds 11-20 being held on Tuesday starting at 1pm CT.

How long is the MLB Draft?

Unlike most other professional sports leagues in North America, the MLB Draft is a marathon not a sprint. The event lasts over the course of three days, which is comparable to the NFL Draft which also lasts the same amount of time.

One of the major differences is when those three days occur. The NFL times its draft to take place over a weekend, where the MLB Draft will be happening during work hours at the beginning of the week for most fans.

This year’s MLB Draft will begin on July 9th and end on Tuesday July 11th.
