Fans had to wait until late Saturday night to see the Minnesota Twins hit the field, but it was worth it in the end. Byron Buxton turned in a fantastic performance, launching a three-run home run that helped boost the Twins to a 5-1 victory.

It’s a shot that also helped keep Minnesota’s home run streak alive, something that Royce Lewis might be ready to get involved with on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.

Minnesota is trying to win its second series in a row after beating the Oakland A’s last week and then taking two out of three from the Diamondbacks. A win would go a long way in wrapping up a successful west coast trip for the Twins, one that would continue to help them chip away at Cleveland’s lead in the AL Central.

Minnesota Twins lineup vs. Seattle Mariners, June 30th

Rocco Baldelli is switching some things up in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. Byron Buxton will be back in the lineup, while Carlos Correa is getting the day off, but it’s Austin Martin who deserves to be circled.

Martin will be making his secon start at second base since getting called up by the Twins, which could be something that unlocks a few things down the road. Edouard Julien was the Opening Day second baseman but he’s down in St. Paul trying to get his swing right.

Brooks Lee is also coming up, and also plays second base, which means Minnesota could have a platoon of Julien, Lee, and Martin in the near future if all goes well.

  4. Royce Lewis, 3B

  6. Byron Buxton, CF
  7. Max Kepler, RF
  8. Austin Martin, 2B

Twins vs. Mariners starting pitchers, June 30th

Joe Ryan (5-5, 3.31 ERA) will be on the mound for the Twins on Sunday afternoon, going up against Luis Castillo (6-9, 3.79 ERA) for Seattle. Pablo Lopez was able to bounce back last night against the Mariners, pitching six innings and picking up a win while striking out 9 batters and allowing just a single run on a single hit.

That’s what Ryan will be hoping to do on Sunday afternoon. He’s already stepped up in big ways while Lopez sorts out his struggles and the Twins are on their way to having two key aces atop its rotation if the development continues.

We’ve seen enough out of Ryan this season to feel confident he can keep the good times rolling, and beating up a Mariners lineup that’s on a short rest could be the perfect way to head home.
