For the first time all season the Minnesota Twins have a chance to beat the Cleveland Guardians, but something much bigger is at stake starting on Friday afternoon.

Minnesota and Cleveland are kicking off a four game series with just 3.5 games separating the two teams in the AL Central standings. After months of chasing, the Twins could begin next week in first place and in the driver’s seat of the division.

It’s been a long time coming, but the work is hardly over. Minnesota has its sights set on taking over first place in the Central but to do so it will need to actually beat Cleveland. That’s not something the Twins have been able to do this year in five tries, but that could all change this weekend.

Minnesota is coming off a tough series loss to the Chicago Cubs, one that saw ace Joe Ryan go down with a triceps injury. The Twins will also be without Carlos Correa and potentially Byron Buxton, making the task at hand even harder.

Still, the Twins have slowly gained confidence after a rough start to the season and that could all culminate with a massive series over the next three days. Even if Minnesota doesn’t pull ahead of Cleveland in the standings, a strong showing could still go a long way in helping the team end up with a tenth AL Central crown when all is said and done.

What channel is the Twins game on tonight? How to watch

There will be two games played on Friday, one of which is a makeup from April. Minnesota only played two of three games against Cleveland at the beginning of the season due to a rain out, which might end up working in the Twins’ favor.

It’s hard to deny that the team taking the field on Friday, albeit banged up, isn’t better than the one we saw back in April.

Here’s how to catch the first game of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon:

  • Game time: 1:10 pm CT
  • Date: Friday, August 9, 2024
  • Location: Minneapolis, MN
  • Stadium: Target Field
  • TV Channel: Bally Sports North | MLB Network

The second game will be a little trickier to watch. It’s an Apple TV+ game, meanining that local fans will have to subscribe to either Apple TV or have a Fubo subscription with MLB Extra Innings to watch the game.

  • Game time: 7:10 pm CT
  • Date: Friday, August 9, 2024
  • Location: Minneapolis, MN
  • Stadium: Target Field
  • TV Channel: Apple TV+

This is an exclusive broadcast, which means the game will not be seen on Bally Sports North, unlike the first game of the day.
