Minnesota Twins vs. Colorado Rockies start time, lineups, TV Channel (June 11th)
Can the Twins make it three-in-a-row on Tuesday night against the Rockies?
Almost nothing went right for the Minnesota Twins over the last week, but Monday night was a welcomed change.
Technically, Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh is where the good times once again started to roll. An offensive explosion in extra innings against the Pirates seemed to have sparked the Twins and helped roll the production over to a 5-0 win over the Rockies on Monday.
It's momentum Minnesota is hoping to keep building upon. The Twins have been a painfully average team, a direct result of ownership slashing the payroll this winter rather than adding to the roster, but the team has gone about being mediocre in the most insane way possible.
After starting 7-13, the Twins ripped off a 12-game winning streak and went 9-3 over a stretch after that. They've also racked up losing streaks of five or more games three times including last week. Minnesota has stacked two in a row, but at least the streakiest team in baseball seems to be on the right side of things -- for now.
Twins vs. Rockies starting pitchers, June 11th
On Monday night the Twins called up Louie Varland (0-4, 9.18 ERA) to make a spot start tonight, which might be the final chance he gets to prove himself.
Varland started the season in Minnesota's rotation, replacing the injured Anthony DeSclafani after he was ruled out for the season with an elbow injury. It looked like a fantastic move and oportunity, as Varland had lit up Fort Myers outside of a single bad start against the Tigers. That bad start was his last one of the spring and it seemed to carry over into the regular season.
His fall was unfortunate, as Varland posted otherwise fantastic numbers for almost all of Spring Training. What matters, though, is that he cratered hard in four starts and ended up lasting less than three innings in his final start before getting demoted. He know has a chance to start rebuilding his reputation, either for an eventual return to the Twins or as part of his resume for whoever might take a chance on him next.
For the Rockies, a familiar foe will be on the mound facing the Twins. Cal Quantrill (5-4, 3.58 ERA), who has faced Minnesota before during his time in Cleveland, will be trying to get Colorado back in the win column and punch the Twins back down into the slump they're starting to emerge from.
