What are the rookie card values of the Minnesota Twins prospects
Rookie cards of top Minnesota Twins prospects might be a fun and affordable investment for fans.
When it comes to the sports collectible market, MLB prospects are some of the most exciting sports cards to invest in, as most collectors hope to find a future all-star before the cost of their cards skyrocket.
However, finding that future star is not easy for collectors, as prospects are rarely a sure bet. For every Ken Griffey, Jr., there are many more top prospects who never live up to expectations.
In addition, in today’s age of collecting, having a card graded on a quality scale (sharp edges and corners, clean surface, and centered) of up to 10 is important for the card to hold its value.
This uncertainty around young talent is evident in the latest Baseball America prospect rankings. In these rankings, the Twins have a number of prospects in the Top 100, but not without movement, both up and down.
Let’s look at the Twins’ top prospects who showed the most movement recently and the impact it has had on their rookie cards.
Walker Jenkins
Jenkins, the Twins' top and most exciting prospect has been getting the same respect in the collecting world.
Jenkins was listed as an honorable mention for 2024 rookies to invest in. However, as exciting as Jenkins is as a prospect, his cards are still new in the collecting world and prices can change quickly.
Jenkins’ Bowman First rookie card, graded PSA nine (mint), saw its value rise 110 percent selling for $58.81 on June 6 but then dropping as the same card sold for $10.52 just two days later, overall a 62.4 percent decrease in value over the last 30 days according to Sports Card Investor.
Even though Jenkins has struggled to stay on the field this year, in his limited action, he has shown tremendous promise at only 19 years old. This is a career both Twins fans and collectors will be watching closely, and maybe you can find some of his cards for a good deal.
Emmanuel Rodriguez
Rodriguez saw the biggest climb of all the Twins prospects in the top 100, and this might be a sweet spot for fans looking to find a Twins prospect to collect.
Rodriguez was one of the Twins most intriguing prospects this season and took a huge rise in the prospect rankings, going from No. 56 to No. 13. Unfortunately for Twins fans, Rodriguez has ended up on the injured list, which keeps him in Double-A for the time being.
However, due to his injury, his card prices have recently gone down. A PSA 10 (gem mint), the highest grade a card can receive, of Rodriguez’s Bowman First rookie card went for a modest price of $16.25. This is an absoulte steal as the same card previously sold in the $40 range.
If you are a person who believes this injury won’t completely derail his potential meteoric rise to the majors, then it might be best to get a few of his cards now before they start increasing.
Brooks Lee
Lee is the closest Twins prospect to the majors, and he is currently in Triple-A. However, after struggling to stay on the field, Lee saw his prospect ranking drop to No.45.
Lee saw a dip in his rookie card value, but with his recent return to the diamond, Lee reminded fans of why he is still one of the Twins most exciting young players.
Currently, a PSA 10 of his 2022 Bowman Draft First autograph card rose in price by 20.3 percent the day after Lee made his debut this season.
Given how close Lee is to his big league debut, his card value could continue to rise due to high expectations, but he is still an interesting prospect to watch.
Final Verdict
There is a lot of volatility in the collecting market and as with everything, investing in cards is a risk but the Twins have some intriguing players to watch. Don’t expect to retire on these cards, but you could have some fun and add to your excitment when following these prospects.
