It was a fantastic run, but the Minnesota Twins' winning streak came to an end on Sunday afternoon.

While the streak is over, the Twins laid the foundation for the winning ways to contiune long after the rally sausage is gone. Offensively the team seems to have woken up, with Ryan Jeffers and Max Kepler leading the way while other guys like Willi Castro and Trevor Larnach are pulling more weight than we thought they would.

It's all resulted in the Twins jumping up into second place in the AL Central and has put them in a position to keep chipping away at earning a top spot in the playoff race. We're still early in the season but things are starting to break Minnesota's way like how we thought it might back in April.

Standing in the way of another streak starting are the Seattle Mariners and old friend Jorge Polanco. He'll be making his return to Target Field, playing there for the first time in an opposing uniform. It will be a bittersweet moment for fans ready to both welcome him back but also give him the proper sendoff he never received.

Simeon Woods Richardson (1-0, 2.45 ERA) will be making his fourth start of the season, which doubles as his second start this year at home. Last time out he did pretty well, shutting down the White Sox while allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Things were a little rougher in his last start, which was also against the White Sox and saw him get chased before he could complete four innings of work. That was closer to the Woods Richardson who struggled to earn a spot on the MLB roster the last few seasons, but he has a chance to correct course on Monday night.

Meanwhile, Minnesota's offense is going to get the best of Seattle's pitching staff over the course of this series. That starts with Luis Castillo (3-4, 3.46 ERA) who will be heading to the mound for the sixth time this year.

He got off to a rough start to the season, allowing seven runs on 16 hits over his first two starts, but Castillo has settled in since. In his last three starts he's posted a 0.90 ERA and allowed just two runs on nine hits in 20 innings. That's what the Twins offense is up against, as the trek toward another winning streak won't be an easy path to follow.
