Minnesota Twins probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. Chicago White Sox, April 24
After a walk-off win, will the Twins keep the good times rolling on Wednesday?
After a tough start to the season, the Minnesota Twins have won back-to-back games, including a walk-off last night to beat the Chicago White Sox.
Granted, the Twins are playing the worst team in baseball but it's comforting to know that things aren't as bad as we all feared. Tuesday night was a glorious confidence builder for an offense that has largely struggled to do anything this season, and Minnesota is going to try and keep things rolling in the third of a four game series against the White Sox on Wednesday.
Twins vs. White Sox probable starting pitchers, April 24
It will be Joe Ryan (0-1, 3.57 ERA) on the mound for the Twins hoping to follow in Chris Paddack's footsteps and keep honing his stuff early in the season. Ryan is just a start removed from cooking the Tigers by throwing 12 strikeouts in an extra innings win.
He didn't get credited with a win, nor did the 5-4 loss to Detroit on Friday count against him either. His only loss on the year is against Cleveland, and even in that game he looked pretty decent. Ryan struck out seven Guardians in six innings of work, but allowed all three runs in the loss.
That's what he must work on to keep the good times rolling, as Twins pitchers have generally struggled with a few bad pitches diluting an otherwise good start. Paddack struck out 10 White Sox hitters in his best start since 2021, which bodes well for what Ryan might be able to do.
Chicago will be sending out Garrett Crochet (1-2, 5.61 ERA) to go against Ryan and try to stop a Twins offense that is finding a groove against the White Sox. That's not a high bar to clear, but Minnesota has scored one fewer runs in two games than it did during its entire series against Detroit over the weekend.
Max Kepler has strung together back-to-back games of great offensive production and Trevor Larnach seems to be filling the shoes everyone thought Matt Wallner would be wearing. Byron Buxton is hitting well, Edouard Julien has been hot, and the Twins' offense has a chance to keep riding a high and figuring things out against a pitcher who isn't exactly a world-beater.
