What a difference a week makes.

Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint, and it’s all about gathering the right amount of momentum. The Minnesota Twins are dealing with how tough it can be when the current shifts as the team went from riding a 12-game winning streak to fighting to stay afloat.

The Twins have lost four straight games coming into Saturday’s actions in Cleveland, including a brutal series sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees. Playing the Guardians hasn’t been much easier for Minnesota, as they’ve yet to win a game against their rivals this season.

That will change, but the vibes of the winning streak are quickly evaoporating and the Twins need to come out strong this weekend to try and reverse course before they tumble too fare down the wrong end of a streak.

The Twins are hoping that Bailey Ober (4-1, 3.77 ERA) can help stop the bleeding and get the team’s first win over Cleveland this season. Ober has been mostly solid in his outings, which is a positive considering how much pressure is on him to help replace Sonny Gray this year.

After eight starts it seems he’s fully settled in.

Ober was on the mound for Minnesota’s last win, which came on Sunday against the Blue Jays. In that game he collected 10 strikeouts, which was the first time this season he’s reached double digits. The Twins will need more of that on Saturday to try and end the losing streak and get the good vibes rolling again.

Things won’t be easy, though. Logan Allen (4-2, 5.56 ERA) is on the mound, and while he doesn’t get a ton of strikeouts he has the type of stuff that could give the Twins a hard time on Saturday. He hasn’t thrown more then six strikeouts, but he’s been consistent in his approach, with his last start being a dominating one against the White Sox.

Minnesota’s bats have been ice cold since the Toronto series, and they’ll need to find a way to wake up in a big way against Allen if the losing streak is going to mercifully come to an end.
