After a long and mostly boring winter for the Minnesota Twins, baseball is finally back in our lives. Spring Training was a nice soft launch, but Opening Day means that the games actually count and the Twins quest to run things back -- and more -- can begin.
Last year was one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory, and the most successful year since 2002. That was the last time Minnesota won a playoff series, a streak that mercifully ended in the AL Wild Card. The Twins swept the Toronto Blue Jays, ending a 19-year losing streak and setting up the kind of hope fans haven't felt in years.
We all know what happened over the offseason, which was a whole bunch of nothing. Thanks to a reduced payroll the Twins made minimal moves, operating on the margins rather than actively trying to make the roster better.
Still, Minnesota has a lineup that can content -- so long as it stays healthy. That's already proven to be tricky as four pitchers are starting the season on the IL with Anthony DeSclafani likely needing season-ending surgery.
Despite the early bumps, the Twins are still projected to be an 85-win team and control the AL Central once again. That journey begins on Thursday in Kansas City where we will see whether or not last season was a mirage.
Opening Day 2024: How to watch the Minnesota Twins today
With a new season comes some new changes in the television booth. The Twins pushed out longtime play-by-play announcer Dick Bremer last fall, ending his four decade run as the voice of the team.
Things will sound different yet familiar, though. Cory Provus, who has been the Twins' radio announcer since 2011 will be picking up Bremer's mic. It's the second time in his career that Provus has followed a longtime announcer, as he succeeded John Gordon as the radio play-by-play man over a decade ago.
Here's everything you need to know to catch the Twins Opening Day action:
- Date: Thursday, March 28, 2024
- Game Time: 3:10 pm CT | 4:10 pm ET
- Location: Kansas City, MO
- Stadium: Kauffman Stadium
- Local TV Channel: Bally Sports North
- National TV Channel: N/A
- Live Stream: Fubo | More Options
So much was made about Bally Sports North this winter, as the lack of a television deal dictated the flow of the offseason in Minnesota. In the end, the Twins struck a one-year deal to return to BSN, which means another year of frustratingly trying to find games and watch them.
Things will get better after this season, hopefully, as the Twins will likely either launch their own streaming service or join one that MLB is trying to launch. Either way, as brutal as it may be to watch Bally Sports North this year, things might be different come Opening Day next season.
