Good vibes are flowing freely through the Minnesota Twins clubhouse right now.

For the second time this year the Twins are going for a series victory over the Houston Astros, but that’s merely icing on the cake considering all the other wonderful things going on. Jose Miranda is on a historic heater, having reached base in 12 consecutive at-bats until he finally popped out in Saturday’s win.

Meanwhile, Brooks Lee has firmly established that he is ready to make the Big League leap, hitting .467 with six RBI in 15 at-bats. He also hit the first home run of his pro career on Saturday, a moment that was made even better by his genuine reaction.

Offensively things are clicking for the Twins in ways we didn’t see last season. Not only is the team showing a grit that was lacking in tight games a year ago, Minnesota has scored 33 runs over its last three games and have won five of its last seven.

It’s been an impressive stretch, and things are setting up to ride into the All-Star Break in a great spot to continue taking over the AL Central in the second half.

Once again Brooks Lee is in the Twins lineup, but he’s being joined but another former St. Paul teammate.

Matt Wallner was called up on Saturday afternoon, replacing Austin Martin who is hitting the 10-day IL with an oblique strain. Trevor Larnach batting in the DH spot means that at least three players who have been called up this year from Triple-A will be starting, which is another positive sign for the Twins’ youth movement.

After his historic hitting streak came to an end on Saturday, Jose Miranda will be getting the day off.

  1. Willi Castro, 2B
  2. Trevor Larnach, DH
  3. Carlos Correa, SS
  4. Carlos Santana, 1B
  5. Max Kepler, RF
  6. Byron Buxton, CF
  7. Brooks Lee, 3B
  8. Matt Wallner, LF
  9. Christian Vazquez, C

Simeon Woods Richardson (3-1, 3.52 ERA) will be on the mound for the Twins this afternoon to try and close out another series against the Astros with a win. He’ll be up against Spencer Arrighetti (4-7, 6.13 ERA) who seems to be a pretty favorable matchup for Minnesota’s offense when it comes to trying to stay hot at the plate.
