Minnesota Twins lineup, TV Channel, start time vs. Detroit Tigers (July 2nd)
The Twins are hoping to gain more ground in the AL Central with a series against the Tigers.
After a rather successful road trip, the Minnesota Twins return home to Target Field for a series against the Detroit Tigers.
The Twins wrapped up their journey out west with a 6-3 record, something that helps them continue to make up ground in the AL Central. There’s still plenty of work that needs to be done, but Minnesota is back in second place and a full game ahead of the Royals. It’s Cleveland that the everyone is chasing, and the Twins still have six games to make up before reclaiming first place in the division.
A series against the faltering Tigers seems like the perfect opportunity to make up some ground.
Twins vs. Tigers starting pitchers, July 2nd
If there’s a potential game in the series the Twins might drop, it’s Tuesday night. The offense will have its work cut out against Tarik Skubal (9-3, 2.32 ERA), someone who has already faced Minnesota and has yet to give up a run.
Overall Skubal has been brilliant for Detroit this season, which is why his name has already popped up in trade rumors. It’s a little ridiculous to think that the Tigers might trade their ace, but for the time being he’s staying put and hopefully not terrorizing the Twins.
Meanwhile, Minnesota will be sending out Simeon Woods Richardson (3-1, 3.41 ERA) for another start against Detroit. Woods Richardson’s rise started back in April against the Tigers, as he was called up for a spot start and hasn’t looked back since. He isn’t the ace pitcher that Pablo Lopez or Joe Ryan have proven to be, but he’s firmly settled into a meaningful role in the middle of the rotation which is huge for Minnesota.
Tuesday will be just his second start against the Tigers, and he’ll be going for back-to-back starts where the Twins get a win for the first time since the beginning of June.
