Twins move first pitch of Friday's game due to Timberwolves playoff game
Remember the Paul Rudd look at us, who would have thought meme that made the rounds a few years ago. That's essentially the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Timberwolves this week as the two teams try to navigate an unprecedented situation.
For the first time since moving into Target Field, the Twins are set to play a game at the same time as the Timberwolves will be playing in the Western Conference Finals. The Wolves comeback win on Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night propelled the team to just its second conference finals apperance in franchise history but it also created a scheduling issue involving the Twins.
Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals is set to tip off at 7:30 pm CT on Friday, which was the same time as first pitch between the Twins and Rangers. It's not that having the two teams play at the same time is a bad thing -- Minnesota sports fans haven't known this life in decades -- rather it's a crowd congestion issue.
Twins change start time of Friday's game due to Timberwolves playing in Western Conference Finals
With Target Field and Target Center sharing the same plaza space, and a sold out crowd expected for the Wolves, the Twins are moving their start time up an hour to help out.
It's honestly the best possible problem to have.
For over three decades the Timberwolves have toiled on the edge of irrelevancy, with only a handful of truly good seasons to be proud of. Not since the Kevin Garnett era has the team been under the spotlight this way, and the Anthony Edwards-led team this year is better than any that fans have seen before.
Game 7 on Sunday night was easily the single best game in franchise history. It was what Twins fans felt watching the 19-year postseason losing streak snap on steroids; cathartic doesn't even begin to describe the feeling.
All eyes will be on the Wolves as the team stares down a very clear and possible path to the franchise's first-ever NBA Finals apperance. The Twins -- and MLB -- making way for that goes to show just how massive this moment for fans in Minnesota is, and we should all soak up every last drop of it while we can.
