Twins provide a Byron Buxton injury update after early exit vs. White Sox
Well this doesn't seem great.
After a nine game winning streak that featured the bizarre emergence of a lucky charm that doubled as a biohazard, the good times seem to have stopped rolling for the Minnesota Twins.
Wednesday's game very quickly stopped being about the team trying to sweep the Chicago White Sox and became entirely about worrying about Byron Buxton. Fans watched in horror has Buxton came up limping after trying to steal second base, needing to gingerly walk off the field with a trainer.
Buxton did not emerge from the dugout to take the field in the bottom half of the inning, which was the last thing anyone -- not just Twins fans -- wanted to see.
Latest Byron Buxton injury updates after leaving Wedensday's game
A few innings after Buxton came out of the game, the Twins announced that it was right knee soreness that was the reason for his early exit.
After the game it was revealed that Buxton would undergo imaging on his knee, and nothing further was known as far as the extent of the damage. For what it's worth, Buxton declined to speak with the media.
This is particularly troubling given that Buxton was bogged down with knee issues since August 2022, which was the last time he had played the field before Opening Day this year.
He had a procedure this offseason to clean his knee up, something that seemed to have given him new life and turned back the clock on his game. He was humming at the plate, buzzing around the base path, and making highlight reel catches out in centerfield.
Watching Buxton play at a high level was a sight for sore eyes, but watching him limp off the field was an all too familiar scene.
It's unclear how serious the injury is, but given his injury history it wouldn't be surprising to see the Twins shut Buxton down as a precaution. The last thing anyone needs is another season to be marred by injury, especially with Buxton looking as good as he did the first month of the season.
