Monday night in Miami might have seemed like just another game for the Minnesota Twins, but it wasn’t. It marked the first time that Luis Arraez would face his former team since being traded to the Marlins back in January.

Arraez was dealt to to Miami in exchange for starting pitcher Pablo Lopez, as well as one of the Marlins’ top prospects in Jose Salas. The trade has already started to pay off for both sides, as Arraez is off to a hot start as Miami’s leadoff hitter and Lopez set the tone for the Twins incredible start to the season with an inmpressive Opening Day performance on the mound.

For what it’s worth Salas could develop into another next-gen stud for the Twins alongside Brooks Lee and others. So the Arraez trade is already paying off now but could continue to be the gift that keeps giving down the road.

None of that mattered for a little bit on Monday night though, as Twins fans couldn’t help but see Arraez and get a little teary eyed thinking about all of the memories shared and the pain of having to watch him depart Minnesota.

Twins fans weren’t ready for the moment emotionally, but were prepared with memes and tweets to help everyone get through things. If one thing was abundantly clear, from Arraez talking pregame to the reaction from fans throughout the game, it’s that there’s still a ton of love to go around.

Coming into the game against the Twins, Arraez seemed to be picking up right where he left off last season following his AL batting title. He began the year with nine hits, a 1. 213 OPS, and a .563 average.

Lopez, on the other hand, went 5.1 innings without allowing a run on Opening Day. He’ll have his own reunion facing the Marlins in the series finale in Miami on Wednesday when he takes the mound for his second start of the season.
