PA announcer called Luke Keaschall the name wrong during All-Star Futures game starting lineups
He's still a largely unknown top prospect, but not THAT unknown.
MLB All-Star festivies officially kicked off on Saturday down in Arlington, with the brightest stars of tomorrow taking the field at the All-Star Futures Game.
Originally Brooks Lee was supposed to be there, but those plans changed when he was called up by the Minnesota Twins. Lee has lived up to the hype ever since making his debut, and is already starting to work his way into a regular everyday role with the team.
His ascension to the MLB roster meant he was ineligible to participate in the All-Star Futures Game, something that opened the door for Luke Keaschall to get the honor instead.
Keaschall is on a Brooks Lee-lite sort of rise. He began the season as one of many top prospects for the Twins but has since played his way into being a Top 100 player and earning a trip to the All-Star Game.
Unfortunately, nobody thought to tell the PA announcer at Globe Life Field, or think to change the notes before the lineups were announced.
Luke Keaschall was announced as Brooks Lee during MLB All-Star Futures Game lineups
Rather than call out Luke Keaschall's name during the lineups, the announcer welcomed Brooks Lee to the field instead.
Lee wasn't there, but Keaschall seemed to take it in stride.
It's likely going to be the last time anyone forgets who Keaschall is, although being mistaken for Lee is hardly an insult.
He's still at Double-A Wichita but is hitting .318/.419/.468 at the break. He was prompted from Single-A Cedar Rapids with a 1.001 OPS and 14 stolen bases in 44 games. It seems like only a matter of time before he reaches Triple-A and starts to knock on the door of getting called up to the majors.
We're still a little ways from that, but the future is no doubt bright for Keaschall. He's been spoken about as potential trade currency, but with the ways things are going he's far more likely to factor into the next wave of Minnesota's youth movement than anything else.
Whenever that happens, the Twins will have a fun little Spider-Man Pointing Meme moment when he ends up alongside Brooks Lee in the lineup. Until then, we'll have to settle for Keaschall making a name for himself all on his own.
