Minnesota Twins 'quick fix' is a way tougher task than MLB claims

The Minnesota Twins have found themselves with the perception of a contender after the first two months of the season. Despite a subpar opening month of the season, the Twins went on a tear in May, posting a record of 18-8. The hot streak from the Twins has them in the mix for one of the American League Wild Card spots.

The hot play has also shifted the conversation for the Twins ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline in July. Once viewed as a potential seller at the deadline this season, it would seem that the Twins will find themselves as buyers if they continue their stretch of impressive play. With that in mind, the focus shifts from who the Twins will be selling to what areas they can look to fix.

As MLB.com recently polled respective beat writers for one quick fix that would benefit the team, it seems like Matthew Leach took the easy way out with his answer for the Twins. Leach's answer for the Twins was simply to "get healthy".

"Minnesota’s pitching has been brilliant since about the second week of the season, with both the rotation and bullpen working at extremely high levels. The lineup has been OK but has lagged behind, with two big answers recently plugged back in. Byron Buxton and Matt Wallner were both activated from the IL over the weekend, and adding the power of both as well as Buxton’s speed and Wallner’s on-base ability will pay dividends," Leach wrote for MLB.com.

Health has often been the Achilles' Heel for the Twins

"Getting healthy" often hasn't been synonymous with Twins' baseball in recent seasons - especially when it comes to Buxton, who has played in 100 games twice throughout his 11-year career. Buxton's inability to stay on the field has often been the reason why the Twins have struggled to find quick fixes. In other words, it's easier said than done.

A true quick fix for the Twins would be to find a permanent solution for the struggles of Royce Lewis. One of the reasons why the Twins' offense has been pedestrian this season is because of the slump that Lewis has been in since the end of the 2024 season. If the Twins are looking for a true a quick fix, it may be as simple as sitting Lewis for a few games, or even having him reset his approach in the minor leagues.
