The Minnesota Twins have received strong production from left-handed reliever A.J. Minter so far. Minter, acquired by the Twins in a trade with the New York Mets on July 31, has allowed just one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in five innings across six outings since joining Minnesota. At the same time, one of the prospects the Twins dealt to the Mets in the Minter trade, infielder Billy Amick, is off to an insanely hot start with his new organization.
Amick, selected by Minnesota in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of the University of Tennessee, has gone 11-for-36 with six home runs and 17 RBI across 10 games with the Mets' Double-A affiliate since being traded to New York.

Amick, 23, has played third and first base throughout his professional career. He ranked as Minnesota's No. 21 overall prospect before being traded, according to MLB Pipeline. He isn't ranked among the Mets' top-30 prospects, but that could quickly change if he continues dominating at the plate. He slashed .217/.338/.482 with 23 home runs and 72 RBI over 86 games with Double-A Wichita this season.
Meanwhile, the other prospect dealt to the Mets in the Minter trade, infielder Bruin Agbayani, is the Mets' No. 30 overall prospect. Before the deal, he ranked as the Twins' No. 29 prospect.
Agbayani, 19, has yet to play for the Mets organization. He was on the 60-day injured list when New York acquired him. The Twins selected the infielder in the sixth round of last year's MLB Draft. He appeared in five games last year and 10 this season with Single-A Fort Myers, going 15-for-57 with three doubles, six RBI and 16 walks. He can play shortstop, second base and third base.
Twins could end up regretting A.J. Minter deal if they miss the playoffs
Only time will tell who will ultimately win the Minter trade. The veteran southpaw is set to be a free agent at the end of the season, so if Minnesota misses the postseason, it will be difficult for Twins fans not to wish the deal had never happened. Even though the Twins bought at the deadline, they are three games under .500 and a game out of the final American League Wild Card spot. However, if Minter likes playing in Minnesota and is enticed to re-sign with the club, the trade could be worth it even if the team misses the playoffs.
Since Amick and Agbayani were both lower-ranked prospects in the Twins organization, it didn't seem like Minnesota surrendered much value to acquire Minter. But if Amick's hot streak continues, the Twins could end up regretting the trade.
