The Toronto Blue Jays were not even one full day removed from the sting of the World Series Game 7 loss in extra innings when the cut went even deeper.
Without proper time to digest the rollercoaster of a postseason that unveiled for the club, they took another hit on a national level. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was a finalist for the Gold Glove Award at first base in the American League, and he lost out... to his backup?! Ty France, who was traded from the Twins to the Blue Jays, was given the Gold Glove Award over Vladdy. It doesn't quite hurt like a World Series loss, but this is just piling on to the hurt that Toronto fans are already feeling.

Now, even though a player on the Blue Jays won the award, it is not quite the same. France played in 23 games at first base for Toronto this season. He appeared in 101 contests at first base this year with the Twins, which is really the reason why he was given the award. So in a way, Blue Jays fans may not accept this award. But surely, the Twins can.
France was the more logical pick over Guerrero Jr., though this season. France's 10 OAA is better than Vlad Jr.'s -2. His nine defensive runs saved are more than Guerrero Jr.'s eight. France also had a .996 fielding percentage, which wound up leading the league (Guerrero Jr.'s fielding percentage was not far behind at .991). The better defender won, but when the backup beats out the superstar on his own team - even if it was for part of the season - it doesn't leave some fans as satisfied. Understood.

Ty France isn't the only former Twin to grab the spotlight this past week. Louis Varland broke an MLB postseason record for most appearances in a single playoff, doing so with 15 outings. Twins fans find another way to win.
