Checking in on 4 former Twins from 2026 Opening Day roster with their new teams

OF James Outman - Detroit Tigers

The Tigers claimed Outman off waivers from the Twins roughly a month ago after the outfielder hit just .156/.229/.250 with no home runs and three RBI in 70 plate appearances over 49 games for Minnesota in 2026.

Outman hasn't been much better for Detroit, hitting .148/.212/.328 in 66 plate appearances, but he notably has three home runs with the team and has gone 5-for-8 with one home run, one triple, two walks and six RBI against lefties. With the Tigers dealing with injuries to Parker Meadows and Javier Báez, Outman has been the club's primary center fielder since joining the squad.

RHP Justin Topa - Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City Royals' AAA team)

The Twins designated Topa for assignment on May 19 and then released him four days later after the right-hander posted an abysmal 8.05 ERA over 19 innings this year. Topa signed a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays in late May. The Blue Jays released Topa on July 4. Three days later, he signed a minor-league deal with the Kansas City Royals.

Topa threw eight innings over eight outings with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate, allowing four runs (three earned) on 11 hits and three walks with four strikeouts. He's made two appearances with the Storm Chasers so far, allowing three hits and one walk with one strikeout over three scoreless innings.

RHP Simeon Woods Richardson - Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays' AAA team)

After being a solid back-end rotation arm the last two seasons, Woods Richardson recorded an awful 7.74 ERA over 47 2/3 innings with Minnesota this season, leading to the Twins designating him for assignment in late May. Minnesota traded the right-hander to the Toronto Blue Jays for cash in early June, and he pitched 10 scoreless innings for the Blue Jays before being DFA'd and then outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo. In two starts with the Bisons, Woods Richardson has allowed eight earned runs on 14 hits, five home runs and three walks across eight innings.

RHP Zak Kent - Rochester Red Wings (Washington Nationals' AAA team)

Minnesota claimed Kent off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals in late Feb. He made just two appearances with Minnesota, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits and five walks across 3 2/3 innings before being optioned to Triple-A St. Paul in early April. The Twins DFA'd Kent in late April, and the Nationals claimed him off waivers in early May.

Kent is currently with Triple-A Rochester, where he has a 4.86 ERA in 16 2/3 innings. The right-hander has logged 10 2/3 innings with the Nationals, recording a 6.75 ERA with nine strikeouts and two walks.
