St. Louis Cardinals sign former Minnesota Twins journeyman reliever Scott Blewett to minor league deal

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed former Twins righty reliever Scott Blewett to a minor league deal, the team announced. The Cardinals also signed Sem Robberse to a minor league deal. Both pitchers will be invited to big league Spring Training as non-roster invites.

Blewett, 29, threw a career-high 44 1/3 MLB innings this past season. The Twins, who signed Blewett to a minor-league deal last offseason, selected the righty's contract from Triple-A St. Paul in early April. After he allowed just one earned run on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, the Twins designated him for assignment. The Baltimore Orioles then claimed him off waivers.

The Orioles traded Blewett to the Atlanta Braves for cash less than a week after claiming him off waivers from the Twins. Then, less than two months later, the Braves sent Blewett back to the Orioles for cash. Overall, Blewett had a 5.48 ERA with 35 strikeouts and 18 walks over 26 MLB outings during the 2025 campaign.

Blewett relies on three pitches. Last season, he used his mid-80s slider nearly half the time. He also throws a fastball in the 93-94 mph range and a mid-80s splitter.

Blewett made his MLB debut in 2020 with the Kansas City Royals, who drafted the righty with the 56th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft. Blewett allowed two runs in three innings over two outings during his first MLB season. He then made just three appearances for the Royals in 2021, allowing one run in five innings.

Blewett elected free agency following the 2021 campaign and signed a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox. He failed to make the major leagues with Chicago, then signed a minor league deal with the Braves in March 2023. He also failed to reach the big leagues in 2023. He didn't make another MLB appearance until he joined the Twins in 2024.
