5 closer options Twins could target to replace Jhoan Durán in Free Agency

The Twins traded essentially every high-leverage bullpen arm they had last year during the trade deadline. This winter, the front office will be tasked with rebuilding its bullpen, and there are a lot of viable options available via the free agent market.

5 closer options Twins could target to replace Jhoan Durán in Free Agency

RHP Raisel Iglesias

The 35-year-old righty enters free agency this offseason after spending the last three and a half years with the Braves. Iglesias is coming off a solid season last year with Atlanta as the team's full-time closer. In 70 appearances, he had a 3.21 ERA and 0.995 WHIP while striking out 73 batters on the season. His 29 saves for Atlanta were tied for 9th in the majors. Last season could even be considered a down year for Iglesias. He was especially good during the 2024 season, posting a 1.95 ERA with 34 saves in 66 appearances.

Projected contract: 2 YR/$24M

RHP Devin Williams

One of the nastiest pitchers in baseball and the last reliever to win the Rookie of the Year award. Williams was traded from the Brewers to the Yankees ahead of the 2025 season, which was his final year before hitting free agency. Williams had quite a down year last season for his standards, with a 4.79 ERA in 62 innings. He will get a much cheaper deal compared to what we would've thought before this season. The high-strikeout numbers were still present last year, though; he struck out 90 batters and had a 13.1 K/9 on the season. Last season was by far the worst of William's career, considering his 2.45 career ERA in the majors.

Projected contract: 1 YR/$13M

RHP Kenley Jansen

One of the best closers in MLB history, Jansen is fourth all-time in MLB history with 476 saves. He now enters free agency again and could be pitching for his fifth team in the last six seasons. Jansen will be 38 on opening day this year. He signed a one-year deal with the Angels before last season and had a pretty solid season in a closing role. Jansen was tied for 9th in the majors in saves and had a 2.59 ERA in 62 appearances.

Projected contract: 1 YR/$11M

RHP Kyle Finnegan

Finnegan enters free agency for the first time in his career. He spent last season with the Nationals and Tigers, being dealt to Detroit at the deadline. Finnegan recorded 24 saves last season (20 of them with Washington), which was tied for 15th in the majors. He made a combined 56 relief appearances last year and had a 3.47 ERA with 55 strikeouts. Finnegan isn't the most well-known name on the free agent reliever market, but he's got tons of closing experience with 90 saves in the last three seasons.

Projected contract: 2 YR/$14M

RHP Ryan Helsley

Helsley is another guy who's been incredible in previous years but had a down season in a contract year. In 58 appearances with the Cardinals and the Mets last season, Helsley made 58 appearances and had a 4.50 ERA with 21 saves. That was significantly worse compared to his 2024 season, where he had a 2.04 ERA in 65 appearances. Helsey also led the league in saves that year with 49, and finished 9th in NL Cy Young voting. Plenty of teams will be interested in Helsley as a bounce-back candidate this winter.

Projected contract: 1 YR/$11M
