With Andrew Morris, Yoendrys Gómez, Jeff Hoffman and Tommy Nance, the Twins' bullpen is in a much better spot than it was last offseason. Additionally, Anthony Banda should be ready for 2027. However, Minnesota could still use more bullpen help. After acquiring Hoffman, Nance and A.J. Minter at the trade deadline, the Twins' bullpen still struggled overall, ranking 19th in ERA (4.33).
On a positive note, Minnesota's relievers ranked eighth in FIP (3.75) after the Aug. 3 deadline, so there is still plenty to like about the bullpen. Still, the Twins should look to add a couple of relievers this offseason, especially with Minter and Taylor Rogers hitting free agency.
3 free agent relievers Twins should target this offseason
RHP David Bednar
The New York Yankees acquired Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates at last year's trade deadline, and he has been dominant ever since. The right-hander recorded a 2.19 ERA with 35 strikeouts and 10 saves over 34 2/3 innings with New York last year. This season, he posted a 2.47 ERA with 76 strikeouts and 35 saves over 69 1/3 innings.
Bednar, 31, has also been successful in the postseason. Last year, he allowed just one run in six innings across five playoff appearances with the Yankees. He threw a scoreless inning in the AL Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox this year.
Now, acquiring Bednar won't be cheap or easy. There's a good chance the Yankees will attempt to re-sign him, and he wants to return to New York, an extremely competitive team, rather than play for Minnesota, a club that has missed the postseason three straight seasons. However, if Tom Pohlad is serious about giving the Twins' front office the resources it needs to be competitive, the organization shouldn't be afraid to offer Bednar a big contract. He is clearly one of the top closers in the game right now.
RHP Raisel Iglesias
Iglesias is a more realistic target for the Twins. He's at the same level as Bednar, but because of his age (36), he will likely have to settle for a one- or two-year deal. Meanwhile, Bednar is likely looking for a four- or five-year contract this offseason.
Iglesias has 12 years of big-league experience. He made his first career All-Star team with the Atlanta Braves this year. In 2026, Iglesias posted a 2.55 ERA with 64 strikeouts and 34 saves over 60 innings. He threw two scoreless innings in the National League Wild Card Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
LHP A.J. Minter
If I had to bet on which reliever the Twins will sign from this article, I'd put my money on Minter. He is probably the most affordable, and he is already familiar with the organization.
The Twins acquired Minter, 33, from the New York Mets for infield prospects Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani in late July. After joining Minnesota, he posted a 2.78 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 22 2/3 innings.
