The Minnesota Twins set another MLB long-ball record as they become the quickest team in history to reach the 200 homer plateau.

The Minnesota Twins had another solid all-around game as Michael Pineda would get the start and pitch 7 solid innings. Once again, the Twins only used 2 pitchers on the evening as Lewis Thorpe came in to pitch a scoreless 8th and 9th. Max Kepler provided the big jolt tonight connecting on a 3-run shot in the 2nd to break the game open for a 5-0 Minnesota lead.

Kepler’s big fly would be the 200th homer on the season for the Minnesota Twins. Nelson Cruz continued his hot streak as he clobbered a solo-shot of his own in the 7th inning.

Twin Takeaway – The good

The Twins had yet another great game collectively. The offense did more than enough and the pitching was brilliant, even the defense cleaned it up quite a bit from last night’s contest. The all-around solid showing is exactly what you’d expect from the Twins against a weaker division rival. With the Indians beating up on the much weaker competition for yet another series, it was imperative for the Twins to do the same with the opportunity presenting itself.

In Big Mikes 7 innings pitched, he secured 5 strikeouts and only allowed 2 earned runs. Though it’s tough to watch Lewis Thorpe come out of the bullpen at such an early stage in his career, he performed exceptionally well. While things are currently trending up, the Twins need better pitching to compete against the best teams in the MLB.

Twin Takeaway – The not-so-good

There wasn’t a whole lot of negative that could be taken away from the evening’s contest. Eddie Rosario grounded into a couple of double plays but the Twins were also 2-6 with RISP and got the job done when needed.

Your Minnesota Twins continue their 4 game series with the White Sox as Martin Perez faces off against Ivan Nova. Perez has struggled lately with a 5.45 ERA in his last 7 starts. Look for Martin to get back on track against the Southsiders.
