A top Minnesota Twins prospect is moving up within the organization. Puckett’s Pond has all of the details for you right here.

The Minnesota Twins have promoted number three ranked prospect Stephen Gonsalves to Triple-A Rochester. Gonsalves has done more than enough to earn this promotion and now he needs to prove himself at the highest level of Minor League Baseball.

Gonsalves needs a new challenge after dominating through his first four starts with Double-A Chattanooga. He has a 1.77 ERA with 25 strikeouts and 10 walks through 21 2/3 innings pitched. He has nothing left to prove at the Double-A level and is well prepared for this next challenge.

What this move means moving forward

The Minnesota Twins have a gaping hole in the back of their rotation. Ervin Santana will return at some point this season and he will ultimately fill out this rotation nicely. However, his return has already been delayed, and Minnesota has a Phil Hughes sized problem currently in the rotation. The Twins need reinforcements and will have to search under every rock to find help.

Gonsalves doesn’t figure to be the young arm to have the opportunity to fill in at the MLB level. Fernando Romero and even Adalberto Mejia will see MLB action before Gonsalves does. However, Gonsalves will reach the Majors during the 2018 season, but probably not until September.

This promotion will allow Gonsalves to hone his craft while playing in Triple-A. The future is bright for Gonsalves and the Twins have done all of the right things while grooming him for MLB. Gonsalves will be a solid piece to the Twins future rotation. However, that future is not now and Gonsalves will have to wait for his opportunity.
