Non-tenders
The Twins have 8 arbitration eligible players in the 2017-2018 offseason. Based on projections, a number of guys likely will end up non-tendered.
Chris Gimenez
Gimenez was signed this offseason, and I’ve seen conflicting things on his contract status this offseason. Some have reported Gimenez is a pure free agent, but MLB Trade Rumors, and Cots’ Contracts both say he has another year of arbitration. With Mitch Garver ready for the big leagues, there may not be a spot for Gimenez in the 2018 plans. Gimenez did bring a lot of personality and positive attitude to the clubhouse, but sometimes the business side of things has to weigh out.

The would really be based on the route the team was taking for a bat that they were bringing in. If their search for power brought in another infielder, Adrianza would be the logical choice to go. Personally, I could see Adrianza being a prime casualty of a deal that brought back Minnesota native

This is one that is more likely to be done in an “extension” with a cheap 2018 season and a bigger 2019 contract with incentives built in. However, May could be a medical issue that leads to a non-tender this offseason. He’s the most unlikely of this group for sure.

Tonkin is a guy with fringe bullpen major league stuff who’s had a fringe sort of major league career. He threw in 65 games in 2016, but outside of that, he’s not made more than 26 appearances, in spite of 5 separate seasons in the major leagues. While Tonkin is unlikely to make major money, the team may simply use this as a chance to clear his spot as he’s eligible for arbitration this year.
